Any organization can be rigorously defined by the answers to the four sets of questions laid out in the State Definition Table. When there is a perturbation, examine the organization along each of the four dimensions to determine how the answers have changed. Use the answers to rigorously define a target next state.
When leadership team members all answer all of the questions in the same way for the current and target next state, there is alignment such that the organization is “ready for change”. At which point the team can next focus on what must be done to transform the organization from its current to its targeted next state.
