The Manage to Lead (MtL) program is a leadership development program designed to help leaders and their teams effectively architect, build, govern, and transform their organizations. It is structured around the foundational ‘Seven Truths,’ which guide participants in executing seemingly straightforward actions that are challenging to implement without the supplied tools and methods.
Key Components
Seven Truths Framework: Central to the program, these truths provide a robust foundation for leadership and organization development, demanding specific actions facilitated by the MtL system. Each truth in the framework guides deliberate actions (as summarized below) that are challenging to implement without the support of the MtL system.
A business exists to solve a problem for a population of people who have that problem (Get Clear):
- Action 1 — Define WHAT you provide, to WHOM, and WHY they buy it from you (the W-W-W process).
- Action 2 — Determine HOW you deliver your services or products, create demand, and expand capacity (the DO-SELL-GROW Framework).
- Action 3 — Monitor HOW WELL you are doing by comparing current results to planned, past, and peer performance.
It takes a team (Get Aligned): Action — Build and maintain a diversely skilled team that gets and stays aligned with organization goals as it matures. This includes deciding how to be as a lead collecting followers.
Context Matters (Plan Change): Action — Identify and communicate planned change by understanding the current state, the reasons for change, the envisioned future, and the actions required to achieve change considering factors that may impede or accelerate progress.
It pays to pay attention (Do & Review): Action — Implement the Plan-Do-Review process to track progress on initiatives, assess the results of actions taken relative to expectations, and make necessary adjustments to stay on course.
No one does much alone (Get Help): Action — Leverage support from the board, external experts, peers, coaches, and advisors to enhance leadership capabilities and fill knowledge gaps.
Growth is good (Grow): Action — Develop strategies to assess and enhance the leadership team’s mix of skills as the organization progresses from startup to more mature stages. Focus on team and individual development, support, and strategic hiring.
It’s okay to be who you really are (Focus): Action: Encourage leaders and teams to align their roles with what they like, are good at, and aspire to do. Promote intentional actions and adaptable persistence in pursuing these alignments, being mindful to reassess and adjust as needed rather than persisting blindly
